Frequently Asked Questions

Why was HOPE created?

The Humanist Organization of Pacific Ecology was formed to fight climate change and its effects on the small island communities of the Pacific ocean, specifically those in the small nation of Tuvalu. These communities are usually forgotten because of their size, their lack of international relevance and mostly general lack of knowledge of their existence. Our goal is to help raise funds for local governments and support regional initiatives to battle climate change.

Why are you restricted to Tuvalu?

The main reason is the lack of funds but Tuvalu is also in critical danger. Tuvalu is predicted to be one of the first to go when the sea levels rise due to its flat surface. This will cause mass displacements of the 10,000 natives on the island. Tuvalu's crisis is mostly forgotten by the world due to the former British colony being the fourth-smallest country in the world, however it is predicted to be one of the first victims of climate change. We hope to bring attention to Tuvalu's crisis and force the international community to intervene.

Will you help other countries in the Pacific?

Hopefully, in the future. The main reason we cannot at the moment is the lack of funds. However, we hope to expand our area of operation to include island nations such as Tonga, Kiribati and Fiji.

How can I help?

Various ways. Donate, spread the message of campaign and consult your nation's government on the issue. Unfortunately, we currently do not currently accept membership requests, however this may possible change in the future.
